Curriculum:

Session 1: The Master Build We begin where most programs end. You will jump immediately into the construction of a large-scale sculptural form. Using advanced slab-building and coil techniques, you will focus on silhouette, weight, and the “architectural soul” of your piece. By the end of this session, your heirloom’s primary structure will be realized.

Session 2: The Structural Blueprint Now that the form exists, we deconstruct the “why.” You will learn the critical physics of clay—moisture tension, structural integrity, and the intricate science of “slip-and-score” joining. We revisit your Session 1 work to refine the edges and ensure your piece survives the kiln’s fire, teaching you the fundamentals through the lens of your own creation.

Session 3: Glaze Alchemy & Surface Chemistry Move beyond standard pigments. We dive into the mineralogy of glazes, exploring how oxides and glass-formers react to heat. You will curate a custom finish—ranging from moody mattes to high-fire metallics—learning the chemical interplay between surface texture and liquid glass. You will apply your custom “skin” to your masterpiece with intentionality.

Session 4: The Art of the Table The residency concludes with a curated styling workshop. After your piece emerges from its final firing, we transition from artist to host. You will learn the principles of professional “tablescaping,” discovering how to integrate your new sculptural work into a luxury dining environment, followed by a celebratory unveiling of the finished collection.

Inspiration Haven Art Studio is a premier creative collective dedicated to bridging the gap between imagination and technical execution. While the studio is known for bringing “Art to Everyone,” this Black Label series is where we invite our most curious guests to go deeper, trading the “paint night” pace for the focused rigor of a master’s studio. Your facilitators are career ceramicists who move beyond hobbyist models to offer deep-tissue artistic mentorship. With decades of combined experience in kiln-firing and architectural form, our team provides the expertise required to ensure every guest graduates with a piece worthy of a professional gallery.

Come Prepared With

Please arrive with a “vision board” mindset—bring 2-3 photos of interior textures or silhouettes that inspire you. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting a bit of “earth” on, and removing rings or watches.

Provided For You

We provide professional-grade, high-fire stoneware clay, a curated palette of artisanal glazes, and all sculpting tools. During our sessions, light refreshments and locally sourced beverages will be served to fuel your creative process within our private “Black Label” studio suite.

About The Setting

Located within the historic Heber Bank Building, our studio offers an atmosphere of timeless permanence. Situated on Main Street, you will enter through the lower-level gallery doors. The space features original architectural details that inspire the “Modern Heirloom” aesthetic. Ample street parking is available directly in front of the building or in the public lot just a half-block south. Please arrive 10 minutes early to settle into the vault-inspired creative suite.
